80th Annual Idaho Spud Day!

Every year at the time of Spud Harvest, in the small town of Shelley, Idaho a magical little fair takes place by the name of . . . SPUD DAY! Local festivities include a 5/10k spud run, a candy filled parade, a free baked spud, the spud tug (which unfortunately we weren't able to participate in this year), local crafts and wares, and Ryan's favorite part . . . the best fair food Shelley has to offer (Ryan's has fallen in love with the ginormous prime rib sandwich).

This year we coaxed our friends Cassie and Shaun to join us in the magical festivities. We started out our morning at 7:30 a.m. where Shaun participated in the 10k Spud Run. Shaun ran like a cheetah finishing 1st in his age group, and 3rd over all (behind the likes of a 60 year old unstoppable man and a 13 year old energizer bunny). Note, the old man ahead of him in the pic. That little old man was unbelievable!

We also enjoyed the parade, the shopping, and most of all . . . the food! What made for a memorable Spud Day was the occasional down pour of rain followed by sunshine peaking through the clouds each time. Thank goodness mom and dad brought lot's of umbrellas:) And to cap it off, the day was made perfect for Ryan due to a BYU blow out! What a fantastic weekend away!

I can't say I would have missed the rain, but a yummy prime steer would have been awesome.
